Sacrament Preparation for the Older Child: Year Two
For students in their 2nd Year of Religious Education and who are in 4th grade or above in school and have successfully completed Year One.
Program Overview
Students in their second year of sacrament preparation and who are in the fourth grade or above in school receive preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation (confession) and First Eucharist (communion). Sessions typically begin in October and end in May.
All 2nd Year students add the Act of Contrition and the Nicene Creed to their list of prayers.
All students are evaluated for their readiness to receive Reconciliation.
Program Requirements
Children attend a total of 26 sessions throughout the catechetical year.
To successfully complete the year children may have no more than 5 absences.
Any more than 5 absences and the child will be dropped from the program.
All students are required to attend a Protecting God’s Children® course conducted during regular class time.
Parents sign a Code of Conduct.
Birth, baptism, transfer letter, and/or other certificates may be required if the student is transferring from another parish.
This is to ensure your child is enrolled in the proper classes.
Upon celebrating your child's sacrament, the certificates must be printed and officially recorded as to how your child's name is printed on his or her Baptismal Certificate.
Required Parent/Child Meetings
All parents should be attending Mass on a weekly basis. Second Year Parents attend the following:
1. Parent/Child Reconciliation Retreat—child’s class will be assigned a date.
2. Reconciliation Ceremonies—ceremony dates will be announced at the retreats.
3. Eucharist Parent Meeting:
4. Parent/Child Eucharist Retreat— class will be assigned a date.
5. Eucharist Ceremony dates will be announced around February
Non attendance at any of the dates and/or events may result is postponement of the receipt of the sacrament.
