2019-2020 CATECHETICAL YEAR UPDATE

RE: June, 2020 Office Re-opening

Dear Parents, Guardians, Students and Friends,

I am sure you have heard that the Diocese of San Bernardino will be resuming parishes’ ability to provide masses at the Church site beginning Sunday, June 13, 2020. Please check our website further for information on how to register for and attend Mass. This is great news, and with that the Catechetical Ministry Office will be open beginning June 15, 2020.  Our office hours will be 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday.  We are closed on the weekends.  

 

While this is an awesome step forward, we are not yet close to resuming operations as they were before the pandemic.  The reality is that, moving forward, there remains the possibility that we may never fully return to all previous practices, and that we are likely now in the process of establishing a “new normal” for the foreseeable future. 

 

Should you wish to come to the office please be aware of the following:

• Masks are required for entry (except for children under 2 years)
• Your temperature will be taken before service can be provided
• You must sanitize your hands upon entry and upon exit.
• Safe distancing of 6 ft. is required 
• Only one family group in the office at a time
• No gathering or congregating on site

 

As we move forward, we are filled with hope and obedient to whatever instructions have been recommended by the CDC and the safety committees for the Diocese of San Bernardino. 

This week I am releasing a survey to the parents of those students who were prepared to receive the Sacrament of Eucharist (First Communion) this past May.  It may be possible to hold some First Communion ceremonies in July, but seating and restrictions will limit the number of the attendees. The survey asks that you gauge your interest in either beginning in July with one parent and one student(s) or waiting further into the Fall when fewer restrictions might be in place and more people can attend.  Please check you e-mail for this important survey or click on the link:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/5LRR8RD.

 

Still to be determined by the Bishops office are dates for RCIA, Confirmations, Anointings, and baptisms.  How they will be handled will be published once liturgical specifications are in place and dates have been set. 

 

Additionally, there are some changes to class availability and structure for the Fall 2020-2021 sessions. Some of the changes are:

 

• Fall Registration for classes will be done online – Opening date to be announced.
• Sacrament preparation classes will be the only class sessions offered:
  • Elementary levels for 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd year on a digital platform only – no on-site classrooms
  • Elementary Older Sacrament Prep for 3^rd grade and above, Year one and Year two on a digital platform only – no on-site classrooms
  • Bilingual Spanish will be in classroom only
  • Confirmation Year One and Year Two will have options for both classroom and Zoom classes. Please note that Confirmation students must be in 10^th grade or above to start the program.

 

I know this only scratches the surface of what might be coming to mind as the year moves forward.
